Active Readers (Middle Primary)

Active Readers: Tools and strategies for comprehension celebrates individual students and the unique way that they connect with text, share their understandings and explore unfamiliar territory to become competent, confident and critical readers.

This three-book series employs the following six key comprehension strategies to aid teachers and students in this process:

Plan – Explore – Apply

A three-step approach to teaching comprehension skills is modelled through a planning guide, carefully designed templates and supporting worksheets. The six strategies are continually reinforced using student text explorations designed to suit shared, guided and independent reading.

Active Readers for middle primary encourages student investigation and discussion using informational and procedural texts and diagrams, maps, photographs, letters, diaries, interviews, advertising and the Internet.

The diverse topics in this series enable the students to connect texts with prior experiences, vocabulary and knowledge – ensuring their success in developing the skills, knowledge and understanding required to actively apply what has been read.
