Let's Read Sport

The universal appeal of sport transcends culture, language and gender. So what better way to engage your students in novel study than with books based around a range of sports?

Let's Read Sport includes teaching ideas and stimulating activities based on five sports-themed novels written by popular children's authors:

• Race at the Rock by Michael Pankridge
• Jasper Zammit: The Game of Life by Deborah Abela & Johnny Warren
• Specky Magee & the Boots of Glory by Felice Arena & Gary Lyon
• Juggling with Mandarins by V M Jones

These novels are selected specifically for middle years students and include sports such as skateboarding, boxing, cycling, swimming, orienteering, running, rock climbing, soccer and AFL football. The activities cater for a wide range of reading abilities and learning styles.

Let's Read Sport assists schools to integrate learning about books with learning about the importance of health, wellbeing and physical activity. It accommodates weak readers who require support and encouragement, as well as more capable readers who need extension and challenge in their reading activities.
