Life Coach

Life Coach: Survival skills for upper primary students is designed to help students think about and discuss issues that are vital and relevant to their daily lives. The book may not be for all students but it is for all schools. Written in simple, clear language it provides a framework for decision making, thoughtful reflection and discussion on topics that affect many young people today.

The book has been prepared for students who appear to lack support in the wider community and demonstrate poor decision making skills. It is most suitable for low-progress readers and students at risk (research shows that a majority of these will be boys). Learning support teachers and/or aides may choose to involve students either one to one or in small groups of students.

Think about it' offers a number of scenarios, with students being asked to make a decision from a list of suggested responses. Discussion follows to allow students to defend or reflect on their position. Tasks will be oral or written with a choice to work alone or in groups. Difficult concepts are reinforced through the enjoyment of board games and students are encouraged to work in small groups to devise their own challenges and appropriate rules.
