Dare to be Different

Teachers and schools play an important role in ensuring young people manage themselves as individuals and in relation to others, understand the world in which they live and act effectively in that world.

Dare to be Different: Personal development in the middle years features four units that include activities to develop skills and behaviours in health knowledge, building social relationships and working in teams.

The units address:

• personal awareness
• the power of good communication
• thinking positively about life
• dealing with pressure and stress.

Each unit features:

• an introduction for the teacher, which explains the key concepts and overviews the activities included in the unit
• a list of 'grab and go' activity ideas that can be modified to suit a range of teaching situations
• detailed activity outlines with ideas for variations, tips for success and troubleshooting advice
• reproducible student worksheets that can be adapted to suit a range of abilities.

Dare to be Different provides teachers with a springboard for working with young people to develop the skills to become flexible, responsible, confident, tolerant and positive members of the community.
