Weather Watch

Weather Watch is a resource for all teachers planning to incorporate education for sustainability into literacy and numeracy programs in the middle years. This book provides the means to develop learning opportunities outside the classroom to extend and support the classroom program.

The numerous activities students undertake include: exploring the life cycle of a thunderstorm, recording weather or weather logs, charting and graphing the data, completing vocabulary exercises using symbols, making instruments and comparing them to scientific instruments, preparing a brochure about what to do in an extreme weather emergency, measuring climate change, recording statistics and creating a world climate map.

These activities give students the opportunity for participation and action, and equip them with knowledge and understandings needed to prepare a major project to present to the class or the whole school at the completion of this investigation of weather and climate.
