Pet or Pest?

Pet or Pest? takes students on a learning discovery offering a wide range of effective learning experiences that promote and support environmental education for sustainability.

The aim of Pet or Pest? is to raise students awareness of the problem of introduced plant and animal species and their control. The engaging narrative that forms a part of each unit acknowledges the power of storytelling to both entertain and present the scientific or environmental problem to the audience.

Facts for the Informant provide facts about plant classification, food chains, feral animals, and develop students creative thinking skills. Activities integrated across a range of curriculum areas involve students in collecting scientific data from the local environment as they investigate and act on this environmental issue.

The model of community participation presented in the story will stimulate students and teachers to become involved in similar projects that operate in their own areas, with obvious learning and social benefits.
