Switch on to Mathematics (Upper Primary)

Switch on to Mathematics: Activities in Word®, PowerPoint® and Excel® will have teachers switching on computers and switching on minds. Using software available in all classrooms, the 30 activities will engage students as they experiment and problem solve in a rich learner-centred environment.

The open-ended activities included on the CD-ROM focus on a particular area of mathematics while developing ICT skills. Students gain experience in:

• programming formulas in spreadsheets to solve problems in Number
• manipulating tables in Word® to create number and data charts and displays
• creating different types of graphs from data presented in a spreadsheet
• harnessing Draw tools to investigate problems involving Space/Geometry
• designing presentations in PowerPoint® to model mathematical strategies.

The accompanying book provides the teacher with additional support in implementing the activities, including:

• a supplementary worksheet linked to each computer-based activity
• lesson plans, including introductory and concluding activities
• ICT troubleshooting tips
• further support for planning and assessment.

The CD-ROM also contains four self-paced tutorials that can be used by teachers and students to build new ICT skills in Word®, PowerPoint® and Excel®. This product is best viewed using Microsoft XP or Mac OS X.
