Our Healthy Waterways

Our Healthy Waterways takes students on a learning discovery about our most precious and valuable natural resource of all – water.

Students take responsibility for their actions as they monitor their local waterways, collect information on the health of their catchment area and then devise strategies to solve problems.

The recommended activities may be successfully undertaken either as an individual or group project, drawing on the wider resources and expertise within the school, the family or the wider community. Each chapter features:

• an unfolding narrative about a group of students who learn about their own catchment area
• information that details our water catchment areas and provides starting points for research and discussion
• reproducible student activities across a range of curriculum areas
• extension activities for further exploration of water management.

Keeping our waterways healthy is vital to the continuing health of all living things. Be aware, be active and do something about the problem. Your community will thank you.
